About Us

The Best of Birth award is a sign of excellence.  It is an award given to people, products, teaching tools or services that support gentle birth and uphold the consciousness of the newborn.

Individuals and services already exemplify the care and love that creates a softer, safer, more secure, healthier conception, pregnancy, birth and post partum experience.  We of the Sacred Birthing Foundation recognize the incredible work that many are doing in the name of safe, healthy birthing.

The award is given for one or more of these qualities:

• A new understanding to support consciousness in the childbearing year;
• Harmlessness to one or all – baby, mother, father, family;
• A Trusting mode of relaying information and education;
• A softer, safer, more secure, healthier experience;
• A product created with the highest intentions for softbirth;

Through your work so many years ago, Birth was seeded with gentle ways that have added immeasurably to helping birth professionals and parents be conscious in their reception and handling of the newborn. We want to hear your stories about the people who are receiving/delivering babies into the pure love they all deserve. If it’s a person, a doctor, midwife, nurse, doula, childbirth educator, lactation consultant, author, birth activist, etc., please tell us the story of what happened, which of the above list does she/he uphold? And why you are recommending this person for the award.

If it’s an item, service, product, or teaching tool, tell us the story of what it is, why it changed your experience, which of the list above does it uphold?  Why you find it excellent, and why you are recommending it.

Best of Birth Award is our way to acknowledge that birth IS quietly shifting out of fear and into love and trust.  Please tell us about anything or anyone who was outstanding in their support of your conception, pregnancy, birth or postpartum time. We want to hear the stories that make your heart sing.  May these stories replace the negative ones that currently surround birth.

The annual award will be given at the Birthing A New Humanity Symposium held May 22-27, 2010, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii.  This award of excellence will soon be recognized and well known.  Plaques with Best of Birth logo will go to the winners of these services, etc. and this insignia will be able to be placed on their webpage and advertising of their product or service.  (This is for the award-winning product, not for an entire product line.)  Our web page will carry a list of the winners, their logos, and a description of why they won this award.  Mothering magazine will carry an article or ad stating the winners every year.  The news media on Kauai and in their hometown will be notified of the recipient’s award and that these winners represent the very best of birth.  And the word will spread.

If your nominee has been awarded the Best of Birth, you and they will be notified by mail by March 30, 2010, and have the opportunity to take part in Birthing A New Humanity Symposium, at which time you may tell your story, receive your award, and have a table to display, educate and sell your product.
